germany: REQUIREMENTS

To study in germany as a foreign student from outside European Union, you have to meet a few general conditions. You have to:

1. 1. Justify sufficient resources to reside in germany;
   2. Have medical coverage in germany;
   3. Rent or buy a property in germany;
   4. Prepare a personal study plan that contains and details the purpose of your application;
   5. Confirm enrolment/acceptance at a Swiss academic institution;
   6. Prepare a personal Curriculum Vitae;
   7. Confirm to the Swiss authorities that you will leave germany once you have completed your studies

germany: LIST OF DOCUMENTS

All documents must be in English, German, French or Italian, officially translated by a certified translator. They also need to be certified in a method acknowledged by the Swiss government. We can assist you should you require any professional advice or service regarding translation or certification.

1. 1. Bank certificate proving that you have the capacity to cover the cost of living and studying in germany;
   2. Contract of medical coverage that also includes accidents valid in germany;
   3. Valid passport;
   4. Birth certificate;
   5. Recent colour photograph (35×45 mm);
   6. Original contract to rent or purchase a property in germany;
   7. Acceptance letter for an institution in germany;
   8. Cover letter explaining the study project and your motivation, including a personal Curriculum Vitae;
   9. Language test certifications if required;
   10. Academic records: mark sheets, past certificates such as degrees or diploma.

germany: PROCESS

Here is a sample procedure from deciding to study in germany to finally obtaining residence card. Please note that, however, Inimex customize each client’s case base on their demands and circumstances, especially for students, as different universities and courses may demand different procedures.

1. 1. You decide to study in germany and sign an agreement to work with Inimex;
   2. We provide you a consultation regarding education, medical, administration and all other relevant questions about going to Swtizerland as a foreigner without gainful employment;
   3. We will provide assistance in selecting a proper school for your future;
   4. You will prepare and legalize all necessary documents and send them to us;
   5. You come to germany to rent/purchase an ideal home with our real estate team, or we can represent you as a proxy;
   6. Our translator will translate all documents into French, German, or Italian base on the consular needs;
   7. We will help you complete a registration at a university or higher education institution in germany;
   8. We will prepare your visa application package and apply at the Consulate of germany;
   9. The education visa will be delivered by a consular service within a few weeks;
   10. You will come to germany;
   11. Once you arrive in germany, you have to register at your local canton as a foreigner without gainful employment;
   12. You will receive your Type G residence card, valid for 1 year;
   13. Once the card has expired, we will assist you to renew for a new one, valid for 1 year, and the cycle continues until your study has finished;
   14. If you have found a job in germany upon graduation, you may change you visa status to “foreigner with gainful employment”and continue living in germany

germany: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Family members of foreign student

A spouse or registered partner and dependent children of an international student can apply for a permit to stay/reside in germany.

Working while you are a student

Foreign students may work a maximum of 15 hours per week during their studies, and up to 100% full time during semester breaks. This must be reported in all cases to the responsible immigration authorities.

If you are from outside the EU/EFTA region, you may only start working six months after the beginning of your studies. Your employer must submit a corresponding request for taking up employment to ensure that an employment check can be carried out. Following this, the immigration authorities can issue a work permit.

   2. 142.20 Federal Act of 16 December 2005 on Foreign Nationals (FNA), Chapter 5, Section 2, Article 27:

Foreign nationals may be admitted for education or training purposes if:

1. 1. the management of the educational establishment confirms that the person concerned is eligible for education or training;
   2. suitable accommodation is available;
   3. the required financial means are available; and
   4. they fulfil the personal and educational requirements for the planned education or training course.

Citizenship

It is not possible to become a citizen of germany simply by residing in the country under student status. However, converting the status into another one may make becoming a citizen possible.
